Dhaka garment factory On fire

The fire broke out at Tazrin Fashion factory in suburban Ashulia Savar, 30 km from Dhaka, on Saturday night and quickly spread to the ground and first floors of the six-storey building, officials and witnesses said on Sunday. At least 124 people were killed overnight as a massive blaze engulfed a multi-storey garment factory on the outskirts of the Bangladesh capital in one of the worst fire tragedies in the country.

 Major Mahbub Hossain, a senior fire service official, told PTI over phone, “We have so far retrieved 124 bodies (and) rescue campaign is still underway.” Fire service officials earlier said several workers of the factory were trapped inside and took shelter on the rooftop of the structure awaiting rescuers.


Efforts were still underway to extinguish the blaze with authorities mobilising several fire fighting units.Television footage showed army troops and fire service rescuers bringing out bodies one after another from the debris as hundreds of people, including relatives of the victims, waited outside.General Officer Commanding of nearby Savar Cantonment Maj Gen Syed Hassan Suhrawardy, who is overseeing the rescue campaign, said the bodies would be kept at a nearby primary school premises from where relatives could take them for burial.

Many workers jumped from the factory’s upper floors to escape the flames before firefighters arrived to put the blaze out.The cause was not immediately known but such fires are usually blamed on short circuits. Authorities called out extra police force at the scene as angry relatives and fellow workers damaged a fire engine, protesting the delay in dousing the blaze.

Virginity of a Brazilian student sold for $780,000

A Brazilian student has sold her virginity in an online auction for $780,000 as part of a documentary organised by an Australian filmmaker, according to reports. 

 Catarina Migliorini, 20, was the subject of 15 bids, with a Japanese man named only as Natsu winning on Wednesday night, Australian media reported.

They said Miss Migliorini would be "delivered" to her buyer on board a plane to Australia and that she would be interviewed before and after losing her virginity at a secret location.

Filmmaker Jason Sisely, who reportedly began his project in 2009 and caused outrage when he put posters up in Sydney and Melbourne saying "Virgins Wanted", said Miss Migliorini was ecstatic and had not expected such a high level of interest.

"The auction closed last night and Catarina is extremely excited. She was speaking to her family in Brazil online and they were extremely happy for her," he told Australian online news site Ninemsn.

"But I guess they didn't expect her to do something like this."
He said the act would be consummated, but not filmed, in the next few weeks.
"We will fly over the winner to Australia and obviously, for the sake of the film and privacy, we can't disclose where and when the act will take place," he said. "I have to leave some details for the documentary."

  Miss Migliorini defended the move."I saw this as a business. I have the opportunity to travel, to be part of a movie and get a bonus with it," she told Folha newspaper."If you only do it once in your life then you are not a prostitute, just like if you take one amazing photograph it does not automatically make you a photographer."Sisely told Ninemsn that under the terms of the auction a condom was compulsory and Natsu must be tested beforehand for any sexually transmitted diseases."I'm looking forward to my audience's response to the film," he said.

Arrest Wall Street Bankers Takes Over the U.S.

NEW YORK - "All day, all week, shut down Wall Street!" the crowd chanted.  Police reopened the Brooklyn Bridge Saturday evening after more than 700 anti-Wall Street protesters were arrested for blocking traffic lanes and attempting an unauthorized march across the span.
The arrests took place when a large group of marchers, participating in a second week of protests by the Occupy Wall Street movement, broke off from others on the bridge's pedestrian walkway and headed across the Brooklyn-bound lanes.

"Over 700 summonses and desk appearance tickets have been issued in connection with a demonstration on the Brooklyn Bridge late this afternoon after multiple warnings by police were given to protesters to stay on the pedestrian walkway, and that if they took roadway they would be arrested," a police spokesman said.

Brian Conley came out of The Jungle

Brian Conley has left the camp. Declan Donnelly announced at the beginning of the show. No more mention was made of him, as the producers set about placing their remaining contestants in glass, insect-filled boxes and zapping them with electric shocks for Monday’s episode.

The show’s contestants are made to undergo a series of tests to ensure they can withstand the physical and emotional toil of living on limited food in a jungle and subjected to tasks which can include being covered in insects and being made to eat unpleasant animal parts. However reports suggest that, despite being given a clean bill of health at the start, 51-year-old Conley suffered a major collapse.

The star has spoken publicly in the past about his problems with alcoholism and depression, prompting questions about whether he should have been removed from the show earlier or even allowed to enter the jungle in the first place.

On Monday Conley’s wife, Anne-Marie, and their two daughters flew out to Australia to join him in a Brisbane hospital.

Hector Camacho Shot In Face

Former world boxing champion Hector "Macho" Camacho was shot in the face as he sat in a car outside the Puerto Rican capital Tuesday, and doctors said he was in serious condition but expected to survive.
Another man in the car, whose relationship to the 50-year-old Camacho wasn't immediately known, died in the attack in which at least one gunman opened fire on their vehicle in the city of Bayamon, according to a statement from police.

Camacho was rushed to Centro Medico, the trauma center in San Juan, where he was in critical but stable condition, Dr. Ernesto Torres, the hospital director, told reporters.
The bullet apparently struck him in the jaw but exited his head and lodged in his right shoulder and fractured two vertebrae, Torres said. The doctor said the boxer, who was trailed by drug and alcohol problems during a career that included some high-profile bouts, could be paralyzed from the shooting.

Girl Arrested for posting in Facebook

 21-year-old Mumbai woman facebooked her views on the shutdown of the city on Sunday, as Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray's funeral was being held. Her post was liked by her friend, and at 10.30 am on Monday, they were arrested. The court ordered them to serve 14 days in jail and. But a couple of hours later they were out on bail after paying two bonds of Rs. 15,000 each.

The woman had posted, "Respect is earned, not given and definitely not forced. Today Mumbai shuts down due to fear and not due to respect". A local Shiv Sena leader filed complaint on this and the woman and her friend who liked her post were booked under Section 295 A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for "deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs." 

Later They were also charged under Section 505 (2) of the IPC for making "statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes", and the police added Section 66 (A) of the Information Technology Act, which has been severely criticised for being authoritarian and stifling freedom of expression.

Red Dawn

Red Dawn is a 2012 American action war film directed by Dan Bradley and written by Jeremy Passmore and Carl Ellsworth, based on the 1984 film of the same name. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Josh Peck, Josh Hutcherson, Adrianne Palicki, Isabel Lucas, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The remake was announced in May 2008 and went into production in September 2009. The invading army was changed from Chinese to North Korean in post-production. FilmDistrict picked up the U.S. distribution rights in September 2011 and set a November 21, 2012 release date.

Amazon, the online retaileris going to cut prices by up to 40% on around 1,000 items until Saturday. The sale is twice as big as a similar promotion last year. Online prices are falling. According to the Centre of Economics and Business Research (CEBR) online prices are falling at their highest rate for five-years. Shoppers are increasingly turning to the internet to do their shopping. Yesterday John Lewis, the department store retailer, said that online sales rose by 31 per cent last week.
